Nas últimas décadas, é notória a crescente presença da atividade empreendedora em nível global. Contudo, no campo teórico, mais acentuadamente em produções brasileiras, é perceptível a pouca relevância que novos aportes têm alcançado frente a uma reinante e persistente literatura clássico-hegemônica dos estudos sobre o assunto. Neste sentido, este artigo fruto de uma pesquisa de doutoramento em andamento, surge da busca pela composição de um cinturão teórico que traga amparo para uma pesquisa sobre a atividade empreendedora de trabalhadoras e trabalhadores na peculiaridade do contexto da baianidade. Centralizamos nosso olhar em proposições acadêmico-teóricas que propõem rupturas e/ou alargamento de postulados clássico-dominantes. No tocante a questão metodológica, esta escrita consistiu em selecionar e analisar uma vasta produção em três línguas distintas (português, inglês e espanhol) em diferentes bases de artigos científicos, em portais e redes de pesquisadores internacionais. Como resultado, apresentamos cinco agrupamentos, que nomeamos abordagens, a saber: a prática na teoria do empreendedorismo, empreendedorismo com foco no contexto, empreendedorismo e identidade, empreendedorismo e redução da pobreza, abordagem feminista do empreendedorismo. Espera-se que esta revisão contribua para uma nova agenda de pesquisa e de produção teórica para a área do empreendedorismo.
